Need to conserve Environment stressed

KTVR Knowledge Park for Engineering and Technology inaugurated an Eco Club. Jose T.Mathews, Principal, State Forest Service College, was the chief guest. He spoke about the need to conserve the environment. Managing Trustee V.Loganathan, KTVR – KPET, inaugurated the project, “Green Campus.” The idea behind the project was to plant more saplings within the campus.

An international conference, ‘The facets of Kavidasan’s works’ was conducted by the Department of Tamil of Kongunadu Arts and Science College in association with the All India Tamil Research Association.

B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, president, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Chapter, was the chief guest. He released the four volumes consisting of 183 scholarly papers presented in the conference.

The Department of Automobile Engineering of Tamil Nadu College of Engineering conducted a technical symposium. It included paper and project presentations, automobile assembling, and technical quiz apart from an auto expo.

Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology organised a national conference on Advanced Computing Systems. Faculty, students and delegates from other colleges participated. Senthil Ramaswamy, System Architect, Cognizant Technology Solutions, inaugurated the programme.

The Budding Biochemists Association of the Department of Biochemistry of Sree Narayana Guru College, K.G.Chavadi, organised a workshop on Chromatographic Techniques in collaboration with Medox Biotech, Chennai. The Life Science students of biochemistry, biotechnology and microbiology attended the programme.

The Department of Business Management of Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science organised a seminar. M.Ramesh, Teacher, Government Higher Secondary School, Tirupur, delivered a lecture on Language Skills. He spoke about the essentials of communication that included listening and speaking skills. He advised the students to develop their communication skills.

Mylswamy Annadurai, Project Director of Chandrayaan I, spoke about the spirit of exploration at the graduation day of the Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Information Technology. He explained the mechanism of the launch vehicle and also briefed the students about the navigation system. He advised the graduates to seize the opportunities that went their way.

The Department of Bio Sciences of Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science along with Consortium Clinical Research Private Limited, Coimbatore, and Xpression Biotek, Nagercoil, organised a conference, “Biosenate ’09,” on the realities of biotechnology. B.Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Director, Centre for Food and Drug Toxicology, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, inaugurated the programme. He spoke about the recent developments in biotechnology and the opportunities open to students.

An awareness programme for the need for marriage registration was conducted at Avinashilingam University recently.

It was co-ordinated by the NSS units. Chancellor T.K.Shanmuganandam inaugurated the programme. G.P.Godhanavalli, Co-ordinator of the State Women’s Commission, spoke about the need for registration of marriages and issued applications to those who had not registered their marriages.

Over 300 students of Dr.NGP College of Arts and Science volunteered for the HIV screening test held as part of Youth Red Cross and the Department of Biotechnology of the college. The aim of the programme was to create awareness on HIV/AIDS and preventive measures. K.Mahadevan, Reader in STD, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, was the chief guest.

PSG College of Arts and Science organised a workshop on Research processes. M.Lakshmanan, Director, Centre for Non-Linear Dynamics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi, was the chief guest. The aim of the workshop was to instil confidence in youngsters to take up research.
